“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing

the hard work you already did.”

— Newt Gingrich

Perseverance is a crucial skill to have. Most of us either work or go to school all day and, when we are finally finished, we usually still have more work waiting for us somewhere else. Doing what needs to be done, doing it well, and doing it all the way is what perseverance is all about. You may have to go to school all day, just to have more work waiting for you at home. Do you want to do that homework? Usually no. But if you want to learn, get good grades, and be prepared for the next day, you will find a way to get it done. When participating in martial arts or any other after-school activity, you have to find the time to practice. These things prepare you for your future, when you will need to make a living and possibly take care of other people. This is just one reason why learning perseverance is so important.

1. How many things are you involved in outside of school?
2. What gives you the stamina to keep going?
3. Would you give up anything that you are doing now? Why or why not?
